Henry R. Mockel was an East coast artist known for his paintings of California desert plants. In 1917 he published “Mockel’s Desert Wildflower Notebook,” a book featuring descriptions and illustrations of 133 desert plants. Fullerton Arboretum is holding a special, one-day plein air painting event in conjunction with Green Scene Plant & Garden Expo on Sunday, April 23, 2017. The event will feature painters working live within the Arboretum grounds and gardens. All paintings will be started and completed in the same day and entered in a juried competition at the end of the day.
Painting will take place from 8am to 2pm throughout the Arboretum. Anthony Salvo, gallery owner and Signature member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association will serve as judge for the competition.

All 2D medium artists are invited to register - there are just 25 spots, so register early! The non-refundable registration fee includes artist admission to the Green Scene on April 23, 2017 and allows the registrant to bring 2 canvases to paint during the event and to submit for judging. Entered work will be displayed for judging and for sale with 100% of sales going to the artist.
Cash awards as follows: 1st place $300, 2nd place $200, 3rd place $100 and two HR at $50 each.
